Patricia A. Schmidt, DO, FACOI
Dr. Patricia Schmidt brings a wealth of understanding and compassion to the care of patients and their families. Dr. Schmidt began her health care career as a practicing physician at Hamtramck Health Center (Michigan), a faculty-resident clinic of internal medicine at Horizon Health Systems. She advanced as a supervising physician in teaching practices at Mt. Clemens General and Garden City Hospitals in the 1990s. In 2002, she joined the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeast Michigan-Hospice before joining a growing hospice organization in 2005.
With more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Dr. Schmidt is a noted and sought-after speaker on issues of palliative medicine and hospice. She has been invited to speak on issues relating to pain and end-of-life symptom management at statewide programs. In recognition of her work, Dr. Schmidt has been awarded the Dream Team Physician of the Year in 2008 and Educator of the Year in 2007 by the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She was also the 1987 recipient of the Judith K. Weiswasser Award for Outstanding Woman Graduate from Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Additionally, she received a faculty development and clinician educator certificate from MSUCOM-COGMET in the areas of evidence-based medicine. She is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
