Michelle Johnson, MS
Michelle D. Johnson serves as program associate with The Kresge Foundation’s Arts and Culture Program team. Her responsibilities include reviewing grant requests from community-based nonprofit organizations, making recommendations for grant funding, and monitoring a portfolio of grants. Michelle explains, “My exposure to philanthropy came through work as a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization. I witnessed the critical role community-based organizations play in creating opportunity and improving quality of life. I’m passionate about helping those in need thrive. Creative placemaking -- the integration of arts and culture in community revitalization -- drives toward that goal by saying: ‘Everyone does better when the place they live is enriched by the arts, everyone can be involved and contribute, and everyone benefits’.”
Michelle joined Kresge in 2006. She has worked as a generalist, in the Human Services Program and is now a full-time member of the Arts and Culture Program team. She previously worked as a financial resource development analyst for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. Michelle earned a bachelor of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology from Wayne State University. She also holds a master of science in management from Walsh College. Michelle is a member of several philanthropic affinity groups and she devotes time to volunteer for several charities.
